By organizing a positive, celebratory event in your city, preferably near your local Japanese Embassy or Consulate office, you’ll be showing Japan, as well as the rest of the world that the massacre of dolphins in Taiji is a crime against nature and must be abolished immediately. The good news is that we already have many events in countries around the world, put together by dedicated people like you. Feel free to be creative! And plan to send us photos and links of any media coverage you receive. Learn more: Japan Dolphins Day 2015 As most of you know, the capture and slaughter of dolphins takes place in the infamous cove in Taiji, Japan, every year on or shortly after September 1st. The Taiji dolphin hunters, along with dolphin trainers, will capture and kill about 2000 dolphins in the cove from September through April. However, we ARE making a difference, as last year the hunts ended a month early, with fewer dolphins killed. We CAN do something to end this massacre – by letting the Japanese government and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) know that these crimes against nature are unacceptable to the rest of the world. We must speak out against this atrocity loudly and proudly, while enlightening others who may not be aware of the dolphin killings in Taiji. Japan Dolphins Day 2014 The aim of JDD is to end the hunts and eliminate the demand for captive dolphin entertainment such as dolphinariums and swim-with-dolphin programs. In 2013 alone, there were nearly 117 events in cities around the world, with a total of over 16,200 participants. Most events were held in front of Japan embassies and consulates, while others were held in front of dolphinariums or public spaces.
